Relationships between dogs and their people
~~~
Kaye has a mystifying
relationship with dogs and a gift for communicating with them, which
she lovingly shares and teaches to their people.
Kaye Ames
Kaye Ames was born into a family of
dogs. No, not as one of the litter, but as a member of a
family of avid dog fanciers.
Kaye has spent
virtually a lifetime providing service to dogs and their people.
Her grandmother, Grace Cramer, bred, boarded, and groomed dogs from
the mid-1940's to the lat '60s, and Kaye was at her side from early
on. In 1962, Kay joined her grandmother in the kennel business
and continued the family tradition.
Kay Ames has
been counseling and teaching dogs and their people since 1962.
During this time, she spent five years as a veterinary assistant, 38
years as a dog groomer, and 14 years as a professional show
handler for 27 different breeds. Kaye was also a breeder of
Champion German Shorthaired Pointers and Rottweilers.
She is a member of many dog related
organizations, is a much sought after lecturer on Canine Behavior,
Growth and Development, and has been a guest and expert advisor on a
variety of TV programs.
Kaye operates the "Kaye Ames
School for Dogs", in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she provides
opportunities for advanced growth between dogs and their people,
utilizing the most up-to-date, positive, motivational behavior
techniques.
Her classes address all levels of
learning for pets and show dogs, including Puppy Kindergarten,
Canine Good Citizen classes and testing, Conformation Handling
classes, Problem-Solving Classes for the Show Dog, all levels of
Obedience Competition, Agility and Flyball, Therapy Dog classes, and
Doggie Dance classes.
Kaye also provides consultations for
puppy temperament testing, puppy selection, puppy problem-solving,
and behavior consultations for dogs of all ages.
Behind-the-scenes, Kaye donates her
time and talents to animal shelters to correct behavioral problems
in shelter dogs, resulting in dogs being placed in their
forever homes.
